The functional diagnostic service can perform various examinations and diagnose heart, urological gland, central nervous system, epilepsy and other disorders. The following services are available:

MEDICAL GENETICS AND PRENATAL DIAGNOSTICS

A physician specialising in prenatal diagnostics and expert in detailed foetal examination (evaluating specific indicators that may indicate foetal health). The specialist is competent in evaluating the results of ultrasonography, biochemical, minimally-invasive and non-invasive examinations of the foetus in accordance with the timing of the pregnancy and existing changes.

OPHTHALMOLOGY

Children are provided with full eye and vision health diagnostics, as well as outpatient or surgical treatment of diagnosed illnesses. Care is available for children of all ages, from infancy onwards. An experienced ophthalmologist can also evaluate the sharpness of vision of a child who cannot talk yet, examining how the child sets its view and follows bright lights and small toys. Children often do not complain about problems with their sight because they have nothing to compare them to. Consultation from an orthopaedist may be required for a child suffering from congenital limb deformities, skeletal injuries, gait disturbances, limping or the consequences of fractures.

GASTROENTEROLOGY

CHILDREN’S REHABILITATION

Latvian rehabilitation centres offer rehabilitation programmes for various illnesses. These are customised to meet the individual requirements of each patient. Many of them involve treatment of 2-4 hours a day for 5-7 days a week. During the rehabilitation course, the child’s clinical condition and functional problems are assessed and documented. Preventive measures are taken to avoid complications, an individual rehabilitation plan is drawn up, and both the patient and his or her parents receive education and information regarding social integration. In addition, health aids are adapted, recommendations are made and the patient is included in the dynamic observation register.
