Services offered

Image diagnostics

Image diagnostics include X-ray, ultrasound, mammographic, computer tomographic, magnetic resonance and other tests. These diagnostic methods are based on image analysis, which is obtained with the help of modern apparatus and make it possible to make a precise diagnosis in the cases of many illnesses.

Endoscopy is a modern diagnostic and treatment method for internal organs. Diagnostic procedures are conducted using endoscopes, which are optical instruments, which are inserted into the body, in order to view internal organs in detail from inside and to perform various diagnostic activities inside organs. With the help of the latest technology and qualified specialists, patients are guaranteed high diagnostic quality, examining with oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, large intestine and rectum. This method is widely used in surgery, gastroenterology, urology, gynaecology and other branches of medicine.

Functional diagnostics

A wide range of functional diagnostic methods reveal the condition and functioning capabilities of various organ systems. For the most part, these methods are non-invasive. This means that various apparatus are used to identify processes from the outside. With the help of functional diagnostics, it is possible to determine the functional condition of the heart, to assess the state of the heart’s coronary arteries in circumstances where the heart is under dosed physical strain, as well as to evaluate tolerance of physical burdens and the effectiveness of medicinal treatment (veloergometry).

Invasive diagnostics

  • Thermoablation – a means of treating thyroid gland nodules. Radio frequency ablation is a minimally invasive radiology method that provides new and effective treatment possibilities. It is well-suited for treatment of benign nodules, as well as for treating patients who cannot undergo surgical treatment of thyroid gland nodules.
  • Invasive (or internal) breast ultrasonography:
    • Aspiration biopsy. Cyst growth aspiration biopsy USG
    • Core biopsy. USG/MG guided core biopsy
    • Vacuum biopsy
  • Transrectal prostate USG and prostate biopsy. Biopsies are performed order to check whether the prostate has been affected by malignant changes. This is a modern method, which serves to obtain prostate tissue samples for laboratory examination.

Clinical diagnostic laboratories conduct comprehensive diagnostic tests for clinical, biochemical, immunochemical, immunhematological and coagulation, as well as sexually-transmitted illnesses using standard and certified examination methods. Laboratory examinations are conducted at the highest level and guarantee that results are received quickly and precisely. We offer to perform blood tests, determining haematological parameters (leucocytes, lymphocytes, erythrocytes, haemoglobin concentration in blood) with a haematology analyser.

Check up programmes

Reflecting our awareness of rapid pace of modern life, patients are offered general health tests or check up programmes, which include a complete examination of a patient’s state of health in as short a time as possible with no need for a stay in hospital. A check-up programme is ideally suited for active, progressively-minded, but busy professional people for whom time and quality are the most prized asset, because all health checks can be conducted as part of an efficiently organised process.

The programmes offered by Latvia’s clinics have been prepared by highly qualified and experienced specialists. It is also possible to create individual check up programmes, customised to meet the individual requirements of the patient in question, taking into account his pre-existing history of illness, as well as family illnesses.

State-of-the-art medical apparatus and technology

The complex range of health tests offered by Latvia’s clinics allow the patient to obtain credible and in-depth information about the state of his health from experienced doctors, who use contemporary methods and the most modern medical equipment. Multi-faceted diagnostics are available in order to determine the diagnosis in the case of many illnesses, in addition to which modern RIS (radiology information system) make the image diagnostic data available immediately after the test has been performed.

PET/CT technology

One of the most modern and precise methods in diagnosing of oncological illnesses, which two consecutive examinations – positron emission tomography (PET) and computer tomography (CT). This new technology makes it possible to significantly shorten the duration of the examination to reduce the total burden of rays received by the patient. The PET/CT method is highly accurate at recognising tiny malignant tissue growths only a few millimetres in size. Moreover, it often discovers these early, when cancer is not yet visible using other diagnostic methods. A PET/CT test provides detailed information about the functional nature of tumour cells, revealing its location, size and whether it is growing slowly or is aggressive, or if it has metastasized. If it suspected that cancer has returned (is recidivist), a PET/CT examination will reveal this earliest. PET/CT examines the body from the base of the skull to the middle of the upper thighs, and, if necessary, the whole body can be examined. The examination is completely safe and painless.

Computer tomography

Multi-layered computer tomography (CT) is a modern examination method, which combines ionizing radiation and complex computer technology. During the examination, about 1,000 cross-section images of an organ are obtained, which are electronically processed, providing three-dimensional and two-dimensional images, which can be reconstructed on any plane. In order to improve diagnostic possibilities, a contrasting substance is used in CT tests. The 320 layer DT Toshiba Aquilion One scanner automatically calculates the amount of the contrast substance required by the patient.

Magnetic resonance

Magnetic resonance (MR) is one of the most precise and informative diagnostic methods – quality cross-section images of the human body and organs on three levels can be obtained during a single visit with the help of a magnetic field and radio waves. The test is harmless. Clinics in Latvia have the very latest and the most modern Premium class magnetic resonance equipment in the Baltics – PHILIPS Ingenia 3,0T and Philips 1,5T.  Both pieces of apparatus have increased gantry openings – 70 cm, which is especially appropriate for obese and large patients (weighing up to 250 kg). During the test, the patient does not feel the impact of the magnetic field, despite the fact that powerful whistling and roaring sounds can be heard in the room. Protective headphones are provided to alleviate these noises.

Medical genetic and pre-natal diagnostics:

  • Structural foetus development defect diagnostics with EPIQ7 Philips US apparatus;
  • Non-invasive pre-natal tests – NIPT;
  • Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) recalculation of risks posed by chromosomal foetal pathologies to pregnant women in the high and medium risk group;
  • Early (from week 11 of pregnancy) chromosome foetal pathology diagnostics (chorionic biopsy).

Diagnostic process – step by step

Individual diagnostic steps will vary from patient to patient, and the detailed series of tests will be determined by each patient’s requirements and state of health. In choosing for diagnostics to be performed in collaboration with Latvia’s clinics, the patient can primarily anticipate that a close relationship will develop electronically followed by a visit to Latvia lasting several days.

The general diagnostic process steps are as follows:

  1. Electronic communication with the chosen clinic, introduction to specialists and identification of the patient’s requirements (phone calls, e-mails, skype calls).
  2. Arrival in Latvia – the following steps will be planned for performance on specific dates:
    1. Consultations with specialists;
    2.  Specified diagnostic tests;
    3. Analysis of results and identification of the further treatment steps.

The length of the patient’s visit to Latvia will be dependent on the necessary tests or the contents of the chosen check-up programme. Brief information about diagnostic tests is provided in the table below:

Patient reviews

"My wife and I traveled from the United States to Latvia to have a thorough medical checkup. We wanted some procedures that are not easy to schedule and are rather expensive in the United States. At Capital Clinic Riga everything we wanted, from ultrasounds, nutritionists and MRIs were just an email away. The English speaking staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. In the U.S., we live in a town with 100,000 people so, it's not exactly a village. Nevertheless, the equipment at the Capital Clinic Riga was more modern than anything to which we would have access without visiting a major metropolitan area. At roughly 10% the price of American services, the difference can easily pay for the trip to Riga. It's not all about money though. The doctors and staff were all professional, kind and seemed to care about our treatment, not just our payment. I can honestly say I have not felt that type of focus from an American doctor for decades. Unfortunately, they seem to be concerned with throughput and generating as much top line revenue as possible. Furthermore, unlike American doctors, the answer to every problem is not simply to prescribe antibiotics to treat the symptoms, unless of course, that is what is absolutely necessary. I wanted a holistic approach to treating my problems so I appreciated an approach that did not necessitate antibiotics. I'm planning to make Capital Clinic Riga a regular part of my health care routine and will be back next year for the same round of exams to see how things may have changed."

"I have to say your clinic is absolutely Good quality in many ways. The services, the speed, the manner of doctor and nurse and reception are very Nice. I Will do my physical examination in your place Every year. And of course introduce to my friends As well. And of course all the helps from You is excellent! Thank You very much."

"I wish to express my appreciation for the excellent care I received from Veselibas Centrs 4 (Capital Clinic Riga). Also, thank you for your personal attention and the professionalism that you showed me. I could not have gone to all the tests that I had done in your clinic without your help. It was good to see a young person take charge and see the job thru from picking me up at my hotel to dropping me off at the airport. A job well done!!The cost of all the tests that I had done during my stay was a real savings. The savings for anyone coming from the Unite States of America is well worth the trip. I will definitely recommend your Veselibas Centrs 4 (Capital Clinic Riga) to all of our clients."

"Please let me with this email express my sincere thank you for having me in Riga to do treatment in Capital Clinic Riga. It was my first time in Latvia and you made me feel very welcome and comfortable, and I can't tell enough how professional and serious everybody is. I had the necessary health help and advice at a very high level, and I will definitely consider coming back for the follow up. I highly recommended your Clinic to all my friends here in the UK, and I'm wishing you more happy patients in future. Can I please also pass my huge thank you to medical tourism manager Ljubov for her immense support before and during the travel, my visit would definitely be more stressful without you."
