Oftentimes, patients may notice the initial signs of venous illnesses, therefore it is important to conduct precise diagnostics using cutting edge technologies. Symptoms of venous illnesses include:
Latvia’s specialists will help every patient to attain the desired result, choosing the most effective therapeutic method.
Sclerotherapy involves the closure or eradication of a damaged or varicose vein with the help of a special medicine – sclerosant. Large varicose branches can also be closed using foam sclerotherapy (replacing surgical intervention). This treatment can be performed regardless of the patient’s age and general state of health. It is significantly less expensive than other vein treatment methods.
Procedure: the medicine is injected into the damaged vein using a thin needle. The foam has a powerful impact on veins, because it completely fills in the damaged section of the blood vessel, making maximum contact with the blood vessel’s walls. The procedure is performed under ultrasound control. Anaesthesia is not necessary, and after the procedure, the patient can go home immediately. Duration – 30 minutes.
Recovery: rehabilitation period 2−4 weeks during which the patient must wear special compression socks. If the network of small capillaries has been removed, socks are required.
Result: the damaged vein gradually closes and after a time is no longer visible. In rare cases, the illness may reoccur.
Minimally invasive method – one of the most popular vein treatment methods in the world. The operation can be performed regardless of the patient’s age and general state of health.
Procedure: the operation is performed using modern vein laser coagulation apparatus. With laser ray impulses, thermally impacting the vein wall, the damaged vein is closed. Laser rays only affect the damaged part of the vein, and the surrounding tissue are practically unharmed. The operation is performed under local anaesthesia. During – 25−35 minutes per leg.
Recovery: rapid recovery observed; the patient can resume ordinary daily life the day after the operation.
Result: desired cosmetic effect attained, the operation does not leave scars.
A vein operation with steam closes a damaged vein with even less trauma. This is especially suitable for repeated vein operations and anatomically complicated vein treatments. The method can not only be applied to the vein, but also to the largest lateral branches.
Procedure: heated steam in the form of controlled micro-impulses is injected into the vein through a catheter. The number of micro-impulses depends on the diameter of the vein, 2-3 impulses are usually used per centimetre. During the operation, the walls of the vein contract and close.
Recovery: fast recovery, after just a few days, the patient can resume a fully active social life.
Result: provides a very good cosmetic result.
The operation can be performed regardless of the patient’s age and general state of health. The radio frequency method can eliminate not only large tracheal veins, perforated veins and venous capillaries, but also lateral branches. The main advantage of this method of treatment is low tissue trauma.
Procedure: small pricks are made in the skin using only local anaesthesia. The diseased vein is heated up in a controlled manner by a special catheter and is closed through micro-impulses using thermal energy.
Recovery: the patient is only required to spend 1−2 hours in day care and can resume a fully active social life after just a few days.
Result: very good cosmetic result; over the course of a year, the damaged vein practically turns into connective tissue. Repeated disease is only observed in very rare cases.
Latvia is the fifth country in the world, where bioglue is used in vein operations. In most cases, this method is used to treat varicose veins during the initial stage. Compared with the previous endovenous methods, this is very gentle on the patient, with no pain or hematomas. The operation is completely painless and no anaesthesia is required.
Procedure: in the form an injection, through a disposable catheter, a safe and harmless special biological glue is injected into the vein. The vein is not removed; after a time, it turns into connective tissue.
Recovery: recovery is very fast. After the operation, the patient does not require compression socks.
Result: very good cosmetic result, no repetition of illness observed.
Venous ulcers in legs are often painful, exuding, restricting the patient’s movement and sometimes even resulting in social isolation. In ulcer cases, an accurate diagnosis is vital, including through consultation with a vascular surgeon. The size of any ulcer should be measured and photographed at the beginning of the ulcer so that changes can be monitored during the healing process. Special computer software is used to calculate the size of the ulcer and determine how much necrotic tissue, fibrin and granulation it has. The primary treatment method is compression therapy.
The ulcer can be cleaned with the help of modern ultrasound technology. The method is gentle and less traumatic. Low-frequency ultrasonic waves enter the wound by means of physiological saline, at the same time cleansing and healing it. This method can separate necrotic tissue and cleanse the “pockets” of wounds. The effect is immediate and obvious.
More serious ulcer cases are treated with the Shave operation. During surgery, the skin of the patient’s upper thigh is removed from the patient’s thigh by a special apparatus, which is then placed on the affected area and secured. The operation is not complicated and lasts for 20 to 30 minutes. Usually, after this operation, the ulcer heals very well within 2−3 weeks.
Proctology – treatment of ailments in the area of the colon and rectum. The necessary diagnostics are performed by a doctor – proctologist, while the doctor – phlebologist joins the treatment process to perform operations and medical manipulations. Various rectal diseases are observed – polyps, chronic constipation, neoplasia, but the most common is haemorrhoids. Haemorrhoids are vascular node extensions at the bottom of the rectum, which may cause discomfort, pain and minor bleeding. Depending on the degree of the ailment, the following methods are used to treat haemorrhoidal nodes:
Individual treatment steps will vary from patient to patient, and the detailed treatment cost will be determined by each patient’s requirements and state of health.
When should I start considering a vein health check?
Heredity and lifestyle are two very important factors for vein health. If someone in the family has vein problems, it is very likely that they will be inherited. You should also start thinking about your health if you notice swelling, heaviness, and visual changes. Varicose veins can affect both women and men. Treatment is available to everyone.
How much does varicose vein treatment cost?
Vein clinics offer a wide range of services – from consultations and compression stockings to cutting-edge procedures that provide excellent results. There are various manipulations that can be performed to improve the vein condition. The most suitable is chosen for each patient. Vein treatment in legs significantly improves the quality of life and well-being. Testing veins is neither a painful nor a long procedure. In total, there are five types of vein surgery procedures – laser, steam, radiofrequency, Bio-Glue, and sclerotherapy. Laser surgery for the veins of one leg costs approximately 500 euros. The procedure is completely painless and leaves no scars. Venous sclerotherapy is a simple outpatient procedure to treat varicose veins, which is cheaper—the price starts from 70 euros—but it can be used to treat simpler problems like cosmetic defects in the form of spider vein. Vein surgery with steam costs about 600 euros per leg, and the price for a radiofrequency treatment is similar. Closing veins with Bio-Glue for one leg costs from 2,000 euros. Doctors will recommend the most appropriate manipulation and explain the risks and benefits in each particular situation.
How to improve vein health?
Vein health must be taken care of. Physiotherapists can recommend exercises that will improve the health of your veins. Active lifestyle with lots of movement and proper nutrition are also important. Modern vein treatment procedures will help in situations where healthy lifestyle alone is not enough.
Which clinics offer vein treatment procedures?
Vein surgery and vein treatments are offered by several medical institutions – Baltic Vein Clinic, Capital Clinic Riga, Dr. Mauriņš Vein Clinic, Good Life Clinic, Liepaja Regional Hospital, and the Medical Society ARS.
Does vein treatment also improve visual appearance?
Absolutely. Vein treatment procedures eliminate cosmetic defects and do not leave any scars. Vein surgery is a way to get beautiful legs if there are problems caused by visible spider veins, varicose veins, or swelling.
What must be taken into consideration after vein surgery?
The patient can go home immediately after vein surgery and resume daily activities the day after. Generally, no special monitoring is required after this type of surgery. There are no flight restrictions after vein surgery, and the patient can fly home the following day. During the flight, it is recommended to stand up once per hour. If the flight takes more than 3 hours, the doctor may prescribe medicine to be taken during the flight. Your doctor may also advise you to wear compression stockings after surgery to improve venous drainage, reduce swelling and direct the flow to deep veins.
