Genetic tests

In Latvia, genetic tests are used in medicine in various fields, the most popular of which are beauty care and anti-aging, dermatology, infertility treatment, determination of biological kinship, as well as oncology.

Several of the tests can be performed remotely by pre-ordering a test kit and then mailing the test material to the laboratory. After the test, the patient will receive a detailed description of the specific problem, as well as possible specialist consultations.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR COLLECTION OF BIOMATERIAL FOR GENETIC TESTS

The test uses DNA taken from the buccal epithelium (from the inside of the cheek)*. The process of taking biomaterial is fast, absolutely painless and convenient for the patient. Preparation for the test is simple and only 30 minutes before the test is enough:

• Do not eat;
• Do not drink;
• Do not use chewing gum;
• Do not brush your teeth;
• Do not use mouthwashes;
• Do not smoke.

Ignoring these limitations can reduce the accuracy of the analysis. When eating or performing oral hygiene, part of the epithelium inside the cheek is removed, so the remaining cells may not be enough for genetic testing.
