Latvia’s childbirth departments will undertake to care for the health and safety of every mother and baby. Our clinics are high level medical institutions which provide quality obstetrics services to Latvian residents, but also to a significant number of foreign patients. Patients arrive here to receive medical care from countries including Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Russia and other countries.
Which hospitals provide childbirth services?
We cooperate with four medical institutions that offer childbirth services – Jurmala Hospital, Liepaja Regional Hospital, Riga Maternity Hospital and Sigulda Hospital. All institutions employ high-class professionals such as gynecologists, neonatologists, midwives and children nurses who take care of families day and night during these important moments. Childbirth related services are provided in modern, cozy and comfortable facilities. Also relatives can stay on the premises. It is possible to participate in childbirth, as well as to stay with the baby and mother in the postpartum period in cozy rooms equipped with the Internet, TV, catering, etc.
Are childbirth services available on holidays?
All health care institutions work non-stop without holidays. Childbirth is one of the medical fields where precise planning is not possible.
What services are available?
All clinics offer a full range of services from maternal health care before pregnancy to baby health checks after birth. Main services include:
What types of pain relief are available?
The available procedures differ by clinic.
Popular types of analgesia with proven clinical efficacy are anesthesia and analgesia (spinal or spinal epidural). Laughing gas analgesia is also available, and it must be used properly to reduce the risk of side effects. Some exceptions might require childbirth analgesia with pain relief medication; however, pain relieving methods will always be discussed with the doctor based on the patient’s health status.
How to choose the right medical institution?
There are many factors to evaluate when deciding which hospital to choose for childbirth. Some include distance, offered services, information on staff and equipment, etc. An important factor for many is the availability of different types of childbirth – water birth, family birth, etc. Find out more about the range of services offered and the staff at specific hospitals.
The process is made significantly easier with a childbirth plan which considers various scenarios in certain situations. Such a plan is made by midwives in preparation for childbirth.
