Latvian Health Tourism Cluster signs a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the health sector with the Ukrainian Association of Small Municipalities.
From 3-7 December 2023, 10 representatives of Ukrainian municipalities in the health sector visited Latvia.
The aim of the visit was to promote mutual learning and exchange of best practices between Ukraine and Latvia in the context of European integration.
During the visit, the Ukrainian delegation was introduced to the cluster approach to the development of the healthcare and tourism sectors, giving participants the opportunity to learn and apply Latvian experience to improve services in the healthcare and tourism sectors in Ukraine during the war and post-war reconstruction.
On 4 December 2023, the delegation visited the Dr. Mauriņš Vein Clinic, met its leading expert, phlebologist Dr. Uldis Mauriņš, and learned about a successful model of private clinic development.
On Monday, they also had the opportunity to meet with Lauris Vidze, Chairman of the Board of PKUS Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital, and learn about the hospital’s future plans.
On Tuesday, an official meeting was held with the Minister of Health, Dr. Hosam Abu Meri, and minstry officials. Presentations were given on healthcare reforms and best practices to be replicated in Ukraine.
On 5 December, the Chairperson of Sigulda Municipality Līga Sausiņa and the Chairman of the Board of Sigulda Hospital Dr Valdis Siļke presented the health care services provided to the residents of the municipality to the Ukrainian municipalities. The Director of the Stereotactic Radiosurgery Centre Sigulda, Māris Skromanis, presented the successful cooperation between the municipal hospital and the private medical institution in the reception of local and foreign patients.
On 6 December, the Ukrainian delegation had the opportunity to get acquainted with Jūrmala’s successful experience in the development of medical tourism, which was presented by Dr. Egons Liepiņš, Chairman of the Board of Jūrmala Hospital, and Dr. Inga Rutka.
Dr. Ulrika Eistreiķe, Head of the Patient Services Department of Nrc Vaivari and Dr. Elīna Malkiela, Chairperson of the Board of Krc Jaunķemeri shared their experience in implementing medical rehabilitation and professional training for specialist doctors.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation was signed between the Ukrainian Association of Small Towns and the Latvian Health Tourism Cluster, and work has already started on the development of joint projects in the field of healthcare.
The visit was organised by the Ukrainian Association of Small Cities in cooperation with the Latvian Health Tourism Cluster and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia.
