Every year hundreds of medical students choose to study exactly in Riga, Latvia, at the Riga Stradiņš University (RSU). Since 2009 the numbers of international students at RSU have increased almost 10 times and currently exceeds 2500. [1]

The most popular programmes have always been Dentistry and Medicine. At present there are students from 68 different countries and every year RSU welcome students who are the very first representatives from their countries. As one of the main reasons why students choose RSU they mention the multicultural student body. Most of the international students come from Germany, nevertheless also Scandinavian countries are represented greatly. [1]

Swedish medical journal Läkartidningen recently wrote that Riga remains the most popular place abroad for the Swedish medical students. For many years Gdansk in Poland has attracted the Swedish medical students, however last academic year the study city of Riga overtook Gdansk. The graph represents the amounts of Swedish medical students studying abroad. [2]
