Children’s Hospital physicians Ivars Veģers and Reinis Balmaks participated in 9th Congress of the World Federation of Pediatric Intensive & Critical Care Societies (WFPICCS 2018) in Singapore, where met more than 40 health care societies from all over the world to share the latest advances and research results in medicine.
Both Children Clinical University Hospital physicians demonstrated the results of the Latvian Childrens Intensive Care Register, created a year ago. This register, which was created at the Children’s Hospital in collaboration with the Leeds and Leicester Universities (United Kingdom), records the anonymous patient health record of the Children’s Hospital Intensive Care Unit, which is comparable to more than 30 other Intensive Care Centers in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
“Data monitoring and the ability to compare them are very important for developing and progress of intensive care. We can be proud that Latvia has the opportunity to be in a very small and elite “club” – joining the UK Network of Intensive Care Clinics and trying to provide the same quality for our country’s small patients”, MD Balmaks admits.
Participating in special section physicians from different regions of world discussed the possibility of implementing an identical register of intensive care for children in Baltic states. The possibility to compare data from all Baltic countries will also help to promote equally high level intensive care for children in the Baltic States.
During the congress, the Children’s Hospital physicians had the opportunity to meet face to face and discuss future opportunities for collaboration and research with leading researchers in the United Kingdom, Australia-New Zealand and South Africa registries.
